After what seemed like an eternity searching for my next vehicle I finally found one that I was willing to pull the trigger on. I always figured I was going to end up with something like a Taco, Frontier, 4Runner etc. but the value that those types of vehicles hold out here ( 4 corners-ish area) is simply insane.

So I decided to embrace my family’s car buying style and ended up with a hugely depreciated, German luxury SUV.

I refer to it as my ugly car with a beautiful engine. Its a 1 owner, 2005, CayenneS, got it for a pretty good deal (after passing its PPI with mostly flying colors). I’ve pretty much lived my entire life with used BMWs so Im fully aware of what I’ve got myself into but I have to say that so far I have no regrets. Feel free to AMA about why Im a masochist, etc, or just enjoy the engine porn of a fancy Touareg.

These came standard with the air suspension right? Also if im not mistaken these are the cars with the highest number of electrical gremlins per lb.

Congrats and good luck! These look 10 years younger with larger wheels, especially the V8 models. Good on you for finding the only Cayenne someone ordered in an actual color that year too!

Air suspension was an option although for whatever reason Porsche’s system has a failure rate well under that of Mercedes or Range Rover (not saying much).

Mine has standard shocks and springs and Im really only concerned about the mechanical reliability which is remarkably good on these.

How many miles are on it? Have the coolant pipes and driveshaft been addressed already? I’m waiting on the 2nd gens to depreciate to these levels.

Just hit 114k, coolant pipes appear to have been replaced but there’s no documentation so I’ll probably do them sometime this summer. Driveshaft was also given the all clear by the shop that did the PPI but it’s on the list of things to do/watch out for.

Well, the only car I’ve ever had that wasn’t built or designed by Germans was a Aw11 with 205k miles so Im not exactly scared. Im a big believer in the Germans designing and building most things well but expect you to replace stuff when its meant to be. Do your preventative maintenance and the cars will treat you well.

Oh, yeah. My family mostly runs german cars and they’re only nightmares when you’re lazy about their maintenance. we had an x5 work off road for us for 15 years without any issue but a small electrical goblin that went away anyway after a servicing.
